OnTarget
2009: PMI Pune-Deccan India
Chapter organized “OnTarget
2009”, 2 days Mega International Conference on Project Management in
Pune. The conference with the theme “Infrastructure (IT / Non IT) Project
Management” was highly successful & received overwhelming response from
various PMI
chapters and members across the globe. The focus was to understand the projects,
which are contributing to daily routine, rural areas, and common man's life. The
conference had two tracks –Academic track & Professionals track. Day 1 of the conference
(On-Campus) on 11th Jan was a part of Pune chapter’s continuing drive towards cultivating Project Management know-how among
college students & professors. On-Campus 2009 presented lectures focusing on
Project Management best practices, competitions and quizzes to stimulate the
minds. Ranjit Gadgil, Director Janawani delivered keynote speech topic was
Challenges & Opportunities for the youth in new
India. Dr. S. B. Kolte, Director General,
IMSCDR talked on Challenges for Nextgen MBAs / Engineers. Umesh Bapat,
VP, Tata Power talked on Management
Challenges for the Youth in 21st Century. Panel Discussion was held to
discuss on Need to introduce Project Management as an area of specialization for
the MBA programs, panel discussion was done by Mr. G S Kelkar, Dr. A. Kulkarni,
Dr. S. B. Kolte, Dr. C. Y. Chitale, Dr. S. Dastane, Mr. A. Gupte and Mr. S.
Vaidya. Parallel to panel discussion there was
Faculty Development Program on Coaching and Mentoring by Shivakumar Sundaram, Head of Training, Syntel
Inc. Prize distribution of Paper & Quiz competition was done by Actor / Director
/ Scriptwriter Pushkar Jog. Day 2 of the conference on
18th Jan
This was the biggest
gathering of professionals about 500 professionals attended the event. The
conference was sponsored by companies like Microsoft, ESI International,
Vodafone, AirTel, Sabcons, All India Associations of MBAs (AAMBA), The Digital
Group, QuickHeal etc. G Narayana
Chairman Emeritus Excel Industries presented keynote speech on Challenges &
Opportunities of International Projects. Shantanu Bhamare, PMP Chapter Vice
President did discussions with Ajay Phatak Director CoreObjects on
Sustainability challenges in Program Management to share his experience. Chapter
Academic Interface Director Himanshu Warudkar, PMP did discussions with
Avinash Patkar Chief
Sustainability Officer Tata Power on Challenges of managing Sustainability for
Power Industries. Chapter President Girish Kelkar did discussions with Suresh
Shirke Retd director WALMI on
Challenges of Managing Water Resources based Projects as well as with Nikunj
Vyas Sr Vice President Reliance
Communications on Challenges of Telecom projects for modern India. Rajendra Shende Head UNEP
DTIE shared his expreience on Challenges managing Global Programs for Climatic
Changes & Environment. Prize distribution of Paper & Quiz competition was done
by Rajendra Shende, Girish Kelkar Chapter President, Shantanu Bhamare, PMP
Chapter Vice President. This professional track was broadcasted online and many countries and PMI chapters : PMI Memphis TN, PMI Austin, Texas Chapter, PMI
WDC Chapter, PMI Panama Chapter, PMI Government SIG, PMI France-Sud, PMI Nova
Scotia Chapter, etc. participated in the conference online. Online webcast was
attended by 100 people.
OnTarget
2008: PMI Pune-Deccan India Chapter organized “OnTarget 2008”, 3 days mega
Naional Conference on Project Management in Pune from 11th to 13th Jan 2008.
The conference with the theme “Behind the Scenes” received
overwhelming response from various PMI chapters and members across the globe.
The focus was to understand the projects, which are contributing to daily
routine, rural areas, and common man's life. The conference had three tracks –
Leadership workshop, Academic track & Professionals track. Day 1, The
Leadership workshop
conducted on 11th
Jan guided all the audience through a fascinating, highly interactive day of
leadership training, which was designed to accelerate the learning of essential
leadership competencies. The workshop was aimed at helping the participants to
begin a transformation from manager to leader.
Day 2 of the
conference (On-Campus) on 12th Jan was a part of Pune chapter’s continuing drive towards cultivating Project Management know-how among
college students & professors. On-Campus 2008 presented lectures focusing on
Project Management best practices, competitions and quizzes to stimulate the
minds. PMI BOD chair Phillip R Diab PMP inaugurated the conference and shared
experiences and guidance for students on Project management. Dr. Jerry
Brightman, President of The Leadership Group presented the keynote speech. Mr.
V.Srinivasa Rao, President of PMI-Pearl City (Hyderabad) Chapter presented an interesting
talk on Student Leadership Competency Program. Mr. Raman Atmakuri, Component
Mentor
of Region 11 presented a talk on “Understand the Business (not technology) for a
better career”. Gertrude Moeller,
Ph.D., PMP, Director of Academic Outreach, PMI Memphis TN Chapter interacted
with the students about the mentoring aspects. Girish Kelkar, Vice President PMI
Pune Chapter presented a talk on “Need for Self Development”. Mr. Dhananjay
Gokhale, President of PMI Pune Chapter introduced Project Management Course ware
with the professors. The TeamIndia leadership
summit was organized on 12th Jan. TeamIndia is a group of Indian
PMI chapters collaborating together for providing synergized value to all the
PMI members in India. All the PMI chapters in
India
participated in this conference and discussed various plans for collaborative
joint efforts in national level. PMI BOD chair Phillip Diab addressed TeamIndia
meeting and shared PMI’s vision and plan for Indian region. Day 3 of the conference on 13th Jan
presented case studies
of some of the largest, complex and well managed projects in India. The uniqueness of the conference was
with the interactive sessions instead of monolog communication. Pune chapter’s
facilitators interviewed the speakers and talked with about the experiences,
best practices & issues observed in their respective projects. PMI BOD chair
Phillip Diab presented a keynote speech and presented PMI’s vision, outreach
programs, standards and plans for Indian region. Dhananjay Gokhale interacted
with Mr. Seshadri Vijayaraghavan about his experiences in projects in Honeywell.
Mr. Vijayaraghavan talked about “Trials Na Tribulations of a ‘Desi’ PM in
managing a Global Program”. · Dr. Ketan Gokhale, Ex-MD of Konkan Railway presented his experiences of working on one of the
biggest projects in the history of modern India – Konkan Railway & construction projects in
Kashmir; challenges in the project and how they were overcome.
· Mr. N. Muralidharan, CEO of NSE Infotech Services talked about the experiences of setting up the IT
backbone of one of the biggest stock exchanges in the world.·
· Mr. Srinivas Netrakanti talked about product management and other issues faced while setting up
organizations from ground up.
·
Mr. Netrakanti CEO and co-founder of Optessa Inc,
Canada, is entrepreneur and pioneer in the area
of developing software solutions in the area of sequencing and scheduling. · Mr. D. V. Pathak & Mr. Mone Chief Engineer of Paranjape Schemes talked about Insights into
construction projects. This professional track
was broadcasted online and many countries and PMI chapters participated in the
conference online.
OnTarget
2007:
OnTarget 2007 was conducted on 13 January 2007 at Hotel Pride Executive. The theme of the
first Conference was “
Best practices sharing in the field of project management across industry
verticals.”
